Fern Tree Gully

Remember the old 1992 classic animation film Ferntree Gully? This rainforest adventure will bring some nostalgia for the adults and some imagination play for the kids. The 2.5 km circuit bushwalk is near the Mudgee Region town of Rylstone; about 45 mins drive from Mudgee. Taking about an 1 hour to complete, this diverse walking trail takes the family down to a primeval forest with giant tree ferns and twisted vines (perfect for climbing) Marvel at the Jurassic rock formations, waterfalls and stunning lookouts. Fuel up after the hike at Rysltone’s famous 29 Nine 99 Yum Cha & Tea House - the whole family will love the dumplings!

The Drip Gorge and Hands on Rock Cave

Another ‘Mudgee Must Do’ walking adventure is the super popular Drip Gorge. It’s a nice easy 3km return walk (about 20 minutes each way) and is a great National Park location to enjoy a picnic day trip with the entire family. The walk is great for all seasons but particularly fab to visit in the warmer months as the shallow water rock holes are the perfect place to have a dip! A few minutes drive from The Drip Carpark, visit a very significant cultural site to the local Wiradjuri people where you will find the ancient aboriginal hand paintings. The ‘Hands on Rock Cave’ was traditionally a site just for women and children but now a great cultural experience for the entire family.

Gunguddy - Dunns Swap

1 hour 15 minutes Sydney side of Mudgee you will find a little slice of Wollemi National Park heaven; Gunguddy - Dunns Swamp. This hidden oasis has about 5km of waterways for the family to explore. Experience the beautiful rock escarpments, natural gorges and an abundance wildlife on a guided paddling tour with Southern Cross Kayaking. Swimming, fishing and multiple bushwalks are some of the other great family activities this natural wonderland has to offer!

Explore Gulgong

Step back in time to explore the historic goldmining town in the Mudgee region of Country NSW, Gulgong is a national treasure. Childhood home of bush poet Henry Lawson and beautifully preserved, take a stroll through history down narrow, winding streets lined with heritage-listed buildings and uncover fascinating goldrush history.  

  • Gulgong Gold Experience is located on Red Hill Mining Precinct and is open Wednesday to Sunday for the ideal spot to immerse yourself in the local gold rush history!

  • Gulgong Pioneer Museum - open everyday, this award winning museum is home to one of the finest collections of Australiana history in the country. It’s definitely an educational experience the entire family will enjoy.

  • Have a play at Gulgong Adventure Playground. Located adjacent to the local pool & skate park, the playground offers interactive and accessible play equipment including slides, swings and a flying fox, as well as shade and BBQ facilities.

Mudgee in March

March is a very popular time to visit the Mudgee Region. As autumn begins and the temperature starts to cool, there are so many fantastic events and experiences to enjoy in Mudgee. We’ve selected a few so you can plan your March in Mudgee.

Goodbye summer - and hello autumn! Before we know it, the leaves will change colour, the sting of the summer heat will pass and the Mudgee wine vines will be harvested. Autumn is the perfect time of year to escape to country NSW and enjoy all things Mudgee.

Here’s your guide to What’s On in the Mudgee Region this March 2023 so you can plan your ultimate getaway itinerary!

Let’s kick off with the first weekend in March. Sure, Mudgee is famous for its wine. But did you know we have some phenomenal emerging craft breweries as well? Try some new drops on Saturday, March 4, at the Mudgee Craft Beer & Cider Festival. Grab some mates and spend an afternoon meeting the brewers behind some of Mudgee’s most popular craft breweries. From 12pm to 5pm, relax on the lawn, enjoy beer tastings, live music and tasty food. Tickets start from $20, which includes a complimentary tasting glass. And even better, a courtesy bus will be operating and can offer pick-ups and drop-offs to and from your Mudgee accommodation with Bliss Stays.

If you can’t manage to make it to Mudgee for the festival, fear not! You can always sample local craft beer at Three Tails Brewery and Smokehouse, Mudgee Brewing Co and Small Batch Brew.

The monthly Mudgee Makers’ Market is held on Saturday 25th March at Robertson Park. Wander and browse through 60 stalls, showcasing the best producers of food, wine and art in the Mudgee region. From 8:30am to 12:30pm, the markets are a great way to start the morning before heading off to explore the wineries and Mudgee countryside.

Sunday Bubbles & Brunch at The Cellar by Gilbert

Brunch and bubbles are two words that are just meant to go together. That’s why the Cellar by Gilbert has chosen to host a relaxing Sunday event on March 26 in their picturesque courtyard & cellar door. Kick start your Sunday with a glass of Mudgee wine and enjoy a seasonal fruit platter and brunch while enjoying live music. After brunch, why not head next door to High Valley Cheese Co? All of their cheeses are delicious – we love the marinated pesto fetta; it’s a solid 10/10.

March is also a very popular month for Mudgee weddings. Many Bliss Stays’ properties are already starting to fill with bridal parties, wedding guests and newlyweds!
