Mudgee Monday | 3-day family itinerary
School is out from September 26 for two weeks, which means there’s plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy a long weekend Mudgee stay with your family.
Because two days is simply not enough time to fully experience the best that Mudgee has to offer; add a ‘Mudgee Monday’ to your itinerary to truly immerse yourself in the region.
Every good trip to Mudgee starts by booking your dream home-away-from-home with Bliss Stays - click here for our fave family-friendly accommodations.
Here’s our top ways to spend three days in Mudgee.
Friday
Olive A Twist catering
Pipeclay Pumphouse
Arrive in Mudgee in time for dinner. Make things easy and pre-order a cheese platter or produce box with our Bliss Bites’ offering - we’ll have it ready in your accommodation for your arrival. Or have our friends at Olive A Twist prepare an in-house meal for you, then kick back with a family movie and hit the hay early, ahead of a busy few days…
Keen to eat out? Treat yourself to a meal at Pipeclay Pumphouse - they have a delicious kids’ menu and family-friendly setting…
Saturday
Small Batch Brewery
Logan Wines
Grab a coffee and breakfast at Eltons or Byron Perry. While you’re there, ask the locals which markets are on that weekend, then spend the morning strolling through local stalls, sampling fresh produce and snagging a few souvenirs.
Take a tour of the region’s family-friendly cellar doors - we love the sprawling lawns and kid-friendly picnics at Logan Wines and the kids’ grazing boxes, activity packs and giant Jenga at Lazy Oak. Wrap up the wine region tour with a stop at Small Batch Brewery, with its Asian fusion food truck, play equipment & kid-friendly setting.
Need a spot for lunch? Head back into town for the sushi train at Mr Sushi King - the kids will love the novelty of the train; they even had child-friendly chopsticks!
Enjoy a traditional pub meal for dinner - head to the Oriental (or the Ori as the locals call it!) for its kids menu, colouring packs & play room, or the Lawson Hotel for its outdoor play area and free ice-cream with every kids’ meal.
Sunday
Raising Baby Moos
Old Wheels Grind
Take your Sunday morning slow and head out to Old Wheels Grind for a leisurely coffee, cinnamon donuts, gelato and freshly squeezed juice. Set on a local farm among the Mudgee vineyards, just 10 minutes from town, it’s a laidback morning pit stop.
From here, take a short drive to Raising Baby Moos - a small farm and animal sanctuary, where you can bottle-feed calves, take baby cows and lambs for walks and enjoy the serene farm setting.
Then, head to historic gold mining town, Gulgong, and take a step back in time.
Be sure to drop into the Gulgong Holtermann Museum, which uses digital images and interactive elements to walk you through life in Gulgong during the gold rush era. Grab a coffee or babycino from the Butcher Shop Cafe and search for knick-knacks and treasures at the iconic Stacks Down Under.
A trip to Gulgong isn’t complete without a visit to the Adventure Park - the ultimate spot for kids to play, move and work up an appetite for lunch. Drop into the Prince of Wales pub or the Centennial Hotel’s (or ‘The Cenny’ as it’s the locals like to call it!) dog-friendly beer garden for a feed.
Then, book yourself a true blue gold panning adventure at Gulgong’s Gold Rush Experience. Learn about the region’s gold rush history through audio stories and displays, before taking a peek inside the original mine shaft and having a crack at some gold panning - who knows what you’ll find!
Finish off the day with a gelato at The Vault and a delicious Mexican fiesta at Bonito.
Monday
Pump Track
Rylstone dumplings
Start your morning with a walk or ride along the Glen Willow loop through Lawson Park, winding along the Cudgegong River and connecting with Walkers Oval and Glen Willow Sports Complex, showcasing sculptures by local and national artists, not to mention the newly added Pump Track for the kids to bike, scoot or skateboard.
After check-out, take a scenic drive home via Rylstone and stop for yum cha at 29 Nine 99 dumpling house, wander the pretty, tree-lined streets, and grab a sweet treat for the drive home, courtesy of The Lollipop Shop.
